About Spela

We are ever changing pieces of Art.

Welcome to my very own circus of wonders! ♥

Here I am, stripped of all non-sense, fakeness, poker faces, you name it, and here’s the world as I see it, as it offers itself up to me.

All I do is recognise its beauty and capture it.

We are all art, nature’s very own creations, and sometimes we make art and forget about it.

And that’s where my camera comes in – it captures decay of the buildings frozen in time, of memories being reclaimed by nature.

I’m a firm believer that nature makes no mistakes. My fascination lies in all the little details on people’s bodies, often referred to as imperfections. I am hoping to capture people’s essence by seeing the beauty in them and, of course, capturing the moment as a lasting monument to the beauty of human essence.

“There is some kind of a sweet innocence in being human- in not having to be just happy or just sad- in the nature of being able to be both broken and whole, at the same time.”

― C. JoyBell C.

I was born in a sleepy rural village in East Slovenia, where nature still plays a big part in people’s lives. As a shy teenager, I spent my high school lessons doodling, painting and writing poetry. I lived in my own magical world, full of elves, magicians, bohemian souls, glitter and everything related to circus. What poked me out of my shell was theatre. I started performing at the local amateur theatre group and that’s when I came across Tomaz Pandur‘s Theatre of Dreams and, quite frankly, fell in love with it.

So off I went to study Contemporary Theatre and Performance at UCLan in Preston, England and lived in Liverpool, Bristol and London since my graduation in 2012.

I started playing with photography and filmmaking, developed a strong interest in abandoned buildings and eccentricity, and the rest is history.

All I ever wanted was to make art and be surrounded by inspiring artists, so a creative community organisation was formed in 2014, named The Madhouse Collective after a special house in Liverpool where most of us resided.

As Cheshire Cat puts it: “We’re all mad here.” And in our quirky, beautiful way that’s exactly what we were and still are… Madhousers.

I am hoping to bring more creative souls together and witness The Madhouse Collective grow into a safe and exciting haven for artists and like-minded people. Some projects, such as short videos displayed on this website, are a product of many minds working together and are credited as such.

This website is a showcase of the beauty that I’ve experienced either living in enchanting places or just passing through them, but more than anything it’s an ode to all human imperfections, that make us perfect in the most peculiar way.

Thank you for stopping by:)

All my love & light,

Spela ♥
